Faith Under Fire – The Mayday USA Rally and the Fight for Religious Freedom in Seattle Sparks 23 Arrested Protesters

Christian rally sparks protest, leading to 23 arrests and shutting down christian event.

What happens when peaceful Christians gather to pray and stand for family values — and end up arrested, silenced, and blamed by their own city?

That’s the question burning across Seattle after the shocking events of May 24, 2025.

On that day, Cal Anderson Park became the center of a national firestorm.

Organized by the Mayday USA tour, the rally attracted hundreds of believers determined to defend their faith in public.

But what should have been a peaceful witness became a national flashpoint.

Mayor Bruce Harrell’s Response

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell’s words ignited outrage:

"Today’s far-right rally was held here for this very reason – to provoke a reaction by promoting beliefs that are inherently opposed to our city’s values, in the heart of Seattle’s most prominent LGBTQ+ neighborhood."

Harrell didn’t stop there — he ordered the city’s Parks Department:

"I am directing the Parks Department to review all of the circumstances of this application to understand whether there were legal location alternatives or other adjustments that could have been pursued."

To many Christians, this was nothing less than a government warning shot aimed at silencing public faith.

A Larger Pattern of Hostility

The rally ended with 23 arrests and intense national debate. Christians across the country now wonder: are we facing a future where our right to gather and speak is under threat?

The Johnson Amendment’s Role

At the heart of this issue lies the Johnson Amendment, a 1954 tax code rule that blocks churches and nonprofits from engaging in political speech. While it was meant to prevent electioneering, many argue it’s now being weaponized to intimidate churches into silence.

We cannot allow moments like the Mayday USA rally to go unanswered. The rights of Christians to gather, speak, and engage with their communities are under growing pressure.

Join us in pushing back. Sign the national petition to repeal the Johnson Amendment and help restore the full First Amendment rights of churches and religious nonprofits.

Your voice matters. Your action matters. Together, we can ensure that faith will never be silenced in the public square.
